Professor Michele Sterling is the Director of the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Better Health Outcomes for Compensable Injury and was Director of the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Recovery Following Road Traffic Injuries (2014-2019). Michele is Program Leader: Improving health outcomes after musculoskeletal injury at The University of Queensland's RECOVER Injury Research Centre. Michele has a discipline background as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist and is a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists. Michele is internationally recognised for her research on whiplash associated disorders. Michele's research focuses on the mechanisms underlying the development of chronic pain after injury; predictive algorithms for outcomes and developing effective interventions for musculoskeletal injury and pain. Michele has editorial roles in several leading journals and textbooks, and is a widely published author. Michele is an elected member of the leadership Council of the International Association for the Study of Pain.
