Paul has a wide interest in health policy, including the areas of chronic disease, self-management, health technology assessment and preventative health initiatives. Since 2004, Paul has held a statutory appointment as a community representative at the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Paul is a member of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority’s conduct review panels and is a (non‑practitioner) member of the Professional Services Review Determining Authority. Formerly, Paul managed the Australian Government’s Repatriation Medical Authority, with responsiblity for inter-agency liaison and relationships.

From 2009-2021, Paul was a founding member and a Director and Deputy Chair of the Australian Pain Management Association. Paul is a former Director on the Board of the Consumers Health Forum of Australia and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Paul is currently a consumer representative on Medicines Australia’s Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee.
